BEW Seminar: AI-Driven into the Future of (Contaminated Site) Remediation

Research meets practice: In an online seminar hosted by BEW (Bildungszentrum für die Ver- und Entsorgungswirtschaft gGmbH), researchers from the ROBDEKON e. V. (the registered nonprofit association that emerged from the ROBDEKON Competence Center) and practitioners from the contaminated site and waste management sector present how AI-driven robotics is advancing remediation in hazardous environments.

Contaminated soils, unstable structures, explosion hazards, high dust or gas exposure – contaminated site remediation often takes place under conditions that are hazardous or barely accessible for humans. This is precisely where AI-driven, autonomous robotic systems come in.

In this online seminar, researchers from the ROBDEKON e. V. and practitioners bring their perspectives together. On the one hand, there are current developments from research: AI-driven walking excavators for automated landfill sampling, autonomous robotics in complex remediation environments, robot-assisted decontamination of plant components, semantic environment perception for heavy construction machinery, and teleoperated hazardous material transport. On the other hand, practical case studies demonstrate where such autonomy technologies are beneficial – such as the remediation of the Morgenstern contaminated site, ordnance recovery at the Dethlinger Teich, or landfill deconstruction.
