»Workshop on Intelligent Autonomous Robots for Hazardous Decommissioning Tasks« at the IAS-17

On Monday, June 13th 2022, from 9am to 4:45pm, the Workshop on Intelligent Autonomous Robots for Hazardous Decommissioning Tasks is held in the context of the 17th International Conference on Intelligent Autonomous Systems (IAS-17) in Zagreb, Croatia. Deploying mobile robots in hazardous environments is a difficult task that involves not only high costs but also health and environmental risks. Modern, intelligent robots can support the decommissioning and reduce many hazards for humans.

In the workshop, results from the German competence center ROBDEKON – »Robotic Systems for Decontamination in Hazardous Environments« will be presented. This robotics competence center develops and evaluates various robotic technologies for decommissioning, decontamination, measuring and the handling of hazardous materials.

The following robotic technologies will be addressed:

  • Design and control of heavy autonomous robots, like autonomous excavators
  • 3D environment mapping and path planning in hazardous environments
  • Humanoid robots for handling of contaminated objects
  • Manipulation and grasp planning, as well as object detection and localization

The workshop is organized by Dr. Arne Rönnau (FZI Research Center for Information Technology) and Prof. Tamim Asfour (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology). Registration for the workshop and/or conference is available here.
